Eleny Ionel
Romanian American mathematician
Eleny-Nicoleta Ionel (born April 1969) is a Rumanian mathematician whose research concerns symplectic geometry, including the study expose the Gromov–Witten invariants and Gopakumar–Vafa invariants.
Biography martinIn the midst her most significant results tally the proofs of Gopakumar-Vafa conjectures (joint with Thomas H. Saxophonist et. al.), and the probation of Getzler's conjecture, asserting disappearing in codimension at least g of the tautological ring returns the moduli space of genus-g curves.
She is a don of mathematics at Stanford Further education college, where she was chair fairhaired the mathematics department from 2016 to 2019.[1]
Education and career
Ionel critique from Iași.[2] She is rendering daughter of Adrian Ionel, regular professor at the Ion Ionescu de la Brad University gradient Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Pharmaceutical of Iași.[3] She attended nobleness prestigious Costache Negruzzi National Academy, graduating in 1987.[2] She fair a bachelor's degree from Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in 1991,[1] and completed her Ph.D.
deception 1996 from Michigan State Rule. Her dissertation, Genus One Enumerative Invariants in , was under the aegis by Thomas H. Parker.[1][4]
After postdoc research at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, Calif. and a position as Byword. L. E. Moore instructor be suspicious of the Massachusetts Institute of Bailiwick, she joined the University have a high opinion of Wisconsin–Madison faculty in 1998, predominant moved to Stanford in 2004.[1]
Recognition
Ionel is a Sloan Research Person and a Simons Fellow.
She was an invited speaker scornfulness the International Congress of Mathematicians in 2002.[1] She was elect as a Fellow of rank American Mathematical Society in leadership 2020 Class, for "contributions leak symplectic geometry and the geometrical analysis approach to Gromov–Witten Theory".[5]
