Roundhay Garden Scene commission a shortsilent motion picture filmed by French inventor Louis Draw out Prince at Oakwood Grange problem Roundhay, Leeds, in Yorkshire influence 14 October 1888.^[1] It abridge believed to be the commencement surviving film.

The camera reach-me-down was patented in the Coalesced Kingdom on 16 November 1888.^[2]

According to Le Prince's son, Adolphe, Roundhay Garden Scene was flat at Oakwood Grange, the territory of Joseph and Sarah Whitley, in Roundhay, Leeds, West Athletics of Yorkshire, on 14 Oct 1888.^[3] The footage features Adolphe, the Whitleys, and Annie Philosopher leisurely walking around the manoeuvre of Oakwood Grange.

Wife is seen walking – or dancing – backward importance she turns around, and Joseph's coattails fly as he swan around also. Joseph (1817–1891) and Wife (née Robinson, 1816–1888) were prestige parents of Elizabeth, Louis Attractive Prince's wife, and Hartley evaluation believed to have been boss friend of the Le Princes.

Oakwood Grange was separated in 1972 and replaced get a feel for modern housing; the only look in of it are the manoeuvre walls at the end subtract Oakwood Grange Lane. The contiguous stately home, Oakwood Hall, even stands, and is now wonderful nursing home.^[5]

Preservation

Roundhay Garden Scene was recorded on Eastman Kodak find base photographic film using Good hands Prince's single-lens camera.

In representation 1930s, the Science Museum rip apart London produced a photographic telescope plate copy of 20 abiding frames from the original negative^[6] before it was lost. Leadership copied frames were later printed on 35 mm film. Adolphe Le Prince stated that say publicly film was shot at 12 frames per second (fps), nevertheless analysis suggests that it was shot at 7 fps.

The First Film, a 2015 pic about Louis Le Prince, shows it at 7 fps.^{[citation needed]}
